MBK Market- Bangkok

We stumbled upon this market while venturing through the city on our way to the Siam Discovery Mall by "Tuk-tuk". What attracted our attention was the beautiful lights that lite the pavement where the market was located. The Market seemed as though it was an extension of the MBK Shopping center (also known as Mahboonkrong) which is 8-floors high and over 2000 stores. It wasn't clear as to what time the market opened but we arrived around 18h00 and the stalls started closing at 22h00.

This market did not come short of providing delicious Thai food and clothing bargains we have come to expect. It was not as crowded as the previous one which made it easier to get around. There were less stalls which quality niche products which we never saw at the other markets and was still at a good bargain. The food court had a variety of Thai delicacies and fresh fruits to enjoy with your local Thai beer.

Pratunam Market- Bangkok

This was our introduction into the markets of Thailand. The 3 hours we spent at this market was barely enough time to start exploring the thousands of stalls. Yes...can you actually shop till you drop. The market is positioned at the intersection of Ratchaprop and Petchburi roads across the highway from the huge shopping center called the Platinum Fashion Mall in Bangkok. There's a bridge that connects these two shopping meccas which allows for easy navigation.

Thailand is known for its cheap food and clothing. Anything your mind could conceive in relation to clothing and Thai souvenirs can be found in these alleys where the market was situated. Beach wear, traditional Thai clothes, Western well-known brands, shoes and bags are of the items you could pick up. However, there were no food stalls except Thai fruits venders amongst the clothing stalls which was far in between so come prepared. The great thing about this market was the fact that you could bargain with the salesman for the best price possible. Which was always a great bargain in the end.

The best time we found to go to this market was during the week as the weekends were overcrowded and was difficult to get around through the masses of people. The market is open at 7am-7pm and gets extremely busy as the day goes on. It's best to set a day aside to get the full feel of what the market has to offer. We throughly enjoyed this market as our first taste of Bangkok Thailand.
